Utah Governor Signs Bill at Conveyors & Equipment to Reduce Regulation
SALT LAKE CITY -- December 6th, 2011 -- Governor Gary Herbert ended some state rules and changed others Tuesday morning to make it easier to do business in Utah.
Conveyors & Equipment in South Salt Lake hired 25 workers to build, sell and maintain conveyor machines. The company has survived the tough economy without a single layoff.
Conveyors & Equipment says Utah is helping them to succeed by making it easier to pay their employees. "On payday they can stop at the teller in the morning, grab 20 bucks," said Laurie Ryerson, Conveyors & Equipment.
Ryerson says Utah changed ruled so workers who don't use direct deposit can use a pay card.
"It's just like a debit card...on pay day you're net amount of your payroll check is directly deposited to that pay card," said Ryerson.
"Utah maintains its position as a business friendly state," said Governor Gary Herbert.
Gov. Herbert announced a big revision of the many state rules governing business on Tuesday.
He signed an executive order that changes 295 rules, and he'll ask the legislature to make more changes when they meet in January.
"We need to maintain level playing fields and protection of the public," said Gov. Herbert.

Some rules are needed, but the governor's office studied rules, and the governor says that some of those rules just bother business and workers. Those are the rules he is changing or repealing.
"This doesn't do anything to protect the public, it just is an unnecessary burden that makes it more difficult or more expensive for me to do business," said Gov. Herbert.
The governor says he'll have about 40 bills for the legislature when they meet.
